About our Tai Chi Programs

While the head instructor has been teaching Tai Chi for over 2 decades, he is still learning and is still adding new and interesting practices to our Tai Chi school.

Sources:

We have teachers who have trained in a number of tai chi schools – e.g. Taoist, Temple Knights and the Plum Blossom Federation. While all of these sources has provided important principles, the primary style we practice is that taught by Grand Master Doc-Fai Wong of the Plum Blossom Federation based in San Francisco CA.

About our Karate Programs

In the kids' program we try to stress a healthy, non-violent environment where respect is the most important objective of each class.

Sparring in the kids' classes is not introduced until the student has reached a level of maturity and control which may not occur until they have reached a senior belt level.  Even then, the student will be introduced to sparring using full protective gear.

No kid will be turned away.

Adult Karate
Our karate programs for the adults stresses safety while encouraging physical fitness. Many adults use karate as a stress relief while others use karate to supplement their other activities.

Certification
Our karate programs are recognized by the Black Belt Institute

About our Kung Fu Progams

The 3 Fires kung fu programs are based on Ng Ying Kuen – 5 Animal Forms. The 5 animals are: Leopard, Dragon, Tiger, Crane and Snake.  Each of these animals teach physical techniques as well as personal values such as honesty, courage, respect, etc.

Our kung fu was introduced to Canada in 1961 when our Sigung (grand master) Dave Chong formed the Canadian Karate Kung Fu Club which later became the Canadian Karate Kung Fu Association or CKKA.

Since its inception, the CKKA has grown to a large number of school affiliations around  the globe.  Sigung is still actively teaching and each year he visits many schools to conduct workshops to ensure our style of kung fu remains close to what he was taught.

Certification
Our kung fu programs are recognized by the Canadian Karate Kung Fu Association.

What is the meaning of "3 Fires"?

The founder of the 3 Fires Martial Arts Academy is a local native from the Nipissing First Nation community, which is part of the Ojibwa nation.  The Ojibwa are part of the 3 Fires Confederacy; an Ojibwa, Odawa and  Pottawatomi  alliance  formed around 746 AD. Therefore, the name 3 Fires, is recognition of his heritage and the history of this region we all share.

Some of the other 3 Fires relationships are:
• 3 primary martial arts taught in this school – Karate, Kung Fu and Tai Chi Chuan.
• 3 personal qualities of a warrior – courage, integrity & respect.

Who are we?

We are a not-for-profit academy who have been teaching martial arts in the North Bay area for over 5 years.  Our focus has been offering a physical training program for both the children and the seniors, so this means the age range of our students span from 4 years to 93 years of age.

We also try to involve the students in community support by helping with fund raising, and volunteer work.  If you have a cause or a community event requiring volunteer help, please contact us.
