Kali/Escrima Tournament Workshop

3 Fires is hosting a special Kali / Escrima workshop taught by Heather Turnbull on Sunday August 23 from 10AM to Noon. 

 

Heather Turnbull has trained in the Filipino martial arts of Arnis and Escrima. She was awarded her black belt in Manila. In 2010 she won two Gold medals for Canada in stick fighting at the WEKAF world chamionship in Mexico. In 2011 she toured throughout Israel and was invited to share personal safety techniques at the El HaLev Center for Violence Prevention in Jerusalem.

Heather will share her views on WEKAF competitor rules for full-contact stick fighting; refereeing; judging; and scoring (force-must system).

There will be lots of ‘sticks-on’ practice for everyone, from all of these role perspectives, using some sample rounds with full gear; plus maybe some suggestions on conditioning for competition; and caring for your gear.

First come, first on mats:  Limited numbers of participants on the mats – spectators are welcome.

Cost: Food Bank Donation – either food or cash. Food bank needs canned tomatoes
